Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) Groups

Why group?

We love groups! There is an expression in mental health that trauma happens alone and that healing happens in community. People can feel isolated when they are struggling. Humans are designed for making connections with others. We plan to design groups that bring people together with similar challenges and goals. The participation in shared healing often can have a stronger impact than a one-on-one session. Another benefit of attending a group is that the cost can be more budget friendly.

What is KAP?

Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy is the use of the medication, ketamine in a therapeutic setting. We’re excited to offer this treatment as we have witnessed how effective the use of this medicine can be. It is best known for helping with depression, anxiety, and PTSD. However, there are other conditions like eating disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder, and end-of-life challenges may benefit from this therapy. Often people report an increased sense of relaxation, improved mood, and profound insights after a ketamine treatment. Ketamine helps to create increased neuroplasticity in the brain, which can assist with making new neuropathways. We put this to good use by scheduling a therapy session during the window of time that this is most active, which is 72 hours after a medicine session.

Our Current Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy Group Offerings:

Maintenance groups: Designed for those who have participated previously in ketamine assisted psychotherapy. We plan to offer at least one monthly maintenance group.

Newcomer group: This is an introduction to KAP, where participants attend a series of 3 medicine sessions with the same group.

Therapist group: An offering to provide therapists an opportunity to have a first-hand experience with KAP.

What the KAP group process looks like:

1

 Medical Evaluation

This is the initial evaluation that determines if you qualify for Group Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy.

3

Group Medicine Session

This session will be led by your KAP therapist and medical provider.

The medical provider will handle the group check-in and check-out, determine the medication dose, and administer the IM medication. The therapist will provide support and guidance throughout the session to ensure the group's experience is safe and supportive.

2

Group Prep Session

This session, led by your KAP therapist, is designed to build rapport within the group, address any questions, and establish collective treatment goals and intentions.

4

Group Integration Session

During this session, the therapist will use insights from the group experience to address each participant's unique psychological material, fostering healing on physical, cognitive, and spiritual levels for the group as a whole.
